Despues de una semana leyendo varios post etc comentando que no era posible conseguir hacer funcionar Beryl con una Ati X1600, he conseguido hacerlo….
Para aquellos que quieran intentarlo les doy los pasos que he seguido…
1.-Instalar los drivers de Ati, ya que los drivers libres no tienen soporte para estas tarjetas, para ello mirar el proceso aqui:
2.- Desactivar AIGLX ya que el driver de Ati no da soporte para él, para ello en la seccion “ServerFlags” pondremos:
Option “AIGLX” “off”
3.- En /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager debe aparecernos esto: DISPLAYMANAGER_XSERVER=”Xgl”
4.- Reiniciamos el servidor X con CTRL+ALT+Backspace. 6.- Al entrar de nuevo en gnome abrimos unaconsola y ejecutamos: beryl-manager
Copio aqui el contenido del fichero /etc/xorg.conf por si a alguna persona le sirve.

Como nota diré que a mi me suele sacar entre 3000-4000 FPS.
